Empowering Young People Through Communication for Development
Across the world, young people are increasingly affected by issues like unemployment, poor education, conflict, and misinformation. But they are also the most connected, vocal, and creative generation in history.
At MECOHEDI, we believe in turning this energy into action, through Communication for Development (C4D) strategies that put youth at the center.
We work with young people to:
Co-create health, education, and peace messaging for their peers
Run youth-led radio shows, blogs, and digital campaigns
Build capacity in ethical storytelling, media production, and advocacy
Create safe spaces, both physical and virtual—for dialogue
Through programs like “Youth Voices on Air,” we train adolescents in storytelling and broadcasting. These young hosts now run weekly programs that discuss mental health, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and conflict resolution.
Strategic Impact: Our approach is not just to deliver messages to young people, but to build platforms with them. This participatory model ensures that messages are relatable, trusted, and more likely to drive behavior change.
In one community, our youth-led campaign on hygiene practices resulted in a 40% increase in handwashing among schoolchildren, proving that peer-to-peer communication works.
Why It Matters: When young people find their voice, they also find their power. By giving youth the tools to lead, we are not only shaping stronger communities today, we are investing in the leaders of tomorrow.
